Last Friday, the Green Technologies class from Heritage Academy built themselves a herb spiral under the instruction of Growing Up Organic’s Laura Benes.
What is a herb spiral, you may ask? Well, a herb spiral is a structure built from stones (or in this case, bricks for simplicity) that allows for the water and drainage to flow down the spiral, keeping the herbs on the lower level more moist while allowing for the herbs on the upper level to flourish under drier conditions.
It’s built from the ground up, with a cardboard base that will decompose naturally and keep down the weeds.
The weather was perfect and the students were ready to build. Check out the pictures to see how it was made.
