Sole Responsibility

It is almost time again to start collecting shoes for Sole Responsibility this year! Sole Responsibility is a group that collects gently used running shoes and donates them to those in need with guidance from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. Each of our locations will be fitted with a collection box to collect running shoes and we will post the specific collection dates closer to when we begin.

Here is a note from Sole Responsibility regarding last year’s successful collection:

“Refugees in Djibouti, Africa just received a shipment of 2,500 pairs of shoes thanks to your help with shoe collections last year!   The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has sent these photos of the shoes being distributed to some of the 20,000 people who have fled Somalia due to violence and are living in a camp in Djibouti.

Claude Marshall of the UNHCR says, “We are having to focus on providing shelter, food and water.   For shoes we are dependent on organizations such as yourselves to help out these individuals who have had to leave their homes and their possessions.  And the refugees certainly need decent shoes!”
